In the world of kitchen appliances, the magic word in 2009 has been VALUE. Gone are the days where buyers will just pony up thousands upon thousands of dollars plainly for a brand name or a sure look. Consumers now want their dollars to travel far in terms of value and quality. Kudos to GE Appliances for meeting this trend, because their GE Cafe line of gadgets have proven to be home runs in terms of fulfilling the new buyer sentiment. In particular, the GE Cafe CGS980SEMSS 30″ gas range has been a queer hot seller.
The CGS930SMSS is appointed in sleek fashion, and sports a ton of features:
- high quality stainless steel body
- five sealed burners going up to 18k BTU
- Convection baking system
- Recessed cooktop to incorporate spills
- Self-Clean oven
- Lower oven adds another 1.0 cu ft of cooking capacity
These features and looks have transformed the GE Cafe CGS930SMSS gas range into the best vender in the cooking lineup of the Cafe line. The range has in truth sold so well that it has cut into the sales of GE’s highly rated (by Consumer Reports) Profile line of gas ranges.
It’s been astounding to watch buyers who two years earlier, were spending $6-$8k on cooking ranges, shift over to the Cafe line. Why not? It not offers professional functionality and performance, but the CGS980SEMSS looks just as nice as ranges that are 3x the amount of money. Plus, with all of the aforementioned features, someone who purchases the CGS980SEMSS doesn’t have to feel short-changed – it brings a great deal to the table, no pun intended.
Other good news for shoppers – GE also doesn’t impose a UMRP policy (minimum merchandising price) on retail partners, so appliance stores are permitted to discount the CGS980SEMSS aggressively, thence supplying more gain to consumers.
Lastly, their have been very few reported difficultnesses with the Cafe gas range, so GE has once again shown that they know how to build authenti and robust cooking gadgets for demanding consumers. So you may buy with selfconfidence that you are purchasing a product that will last and that the manufacturer stands behind. And in the improbable event that something does go faulty with the CGS980SEMSS, GE’s service section (1-800-GE CARES) is second to none with reach that covers the entire contigous United States.
One final merchandising point – GE is supplying uo to $500 back to buyers if they buy an entire Cafe appliance package by 12/31.

Well Made By M. Brockman I just installed this stove in my home on 3/29/2008. Over the weekend we tried each function we could think of. We baked we Convection baked we tried the lower oven and each burner We even used the griddle. This is a fine piece of equipment. There are two complaints which is why the 4 stars. 1. The stove had a little dent on the left side I noticed right away. This dent is low and when slid in is not noticeable. I called Home Depot right away and they said they will credit us $50. I was hoping for a little more but …the thought of loading it back up and waiting for a new one wasn’t worth it. I also after getting it all installed and in place noticed a little indentation on the front behind the handle. This looked like a factory problem but what may I do?

Quality Item By Kameo I have had this range for a few weeks and am rather satisfied with it. I do not find it difficult to keep clean. However, the glass touch controls always seem to have fingerprints, and you must shut down the panel to clean it without engaging all the functions. To power boil, the burner requires a 12″ or more prominent pan. After purchasing, I read that it takes approximately one half hour to heat up the little lower oven. What? I thought it would be outstanding for a little dish, but it surely is not a time saver. Eventually I will use it when I need the space, or for warming. I do love the griddle and find it works very well. I’m just getting employed to the convection baking. It is terrific to be capable to put in three cookie sheets of Christmas cookies at once with even baking or three pizzas, etc. My Thanksgiving turkey convection roasted to a nice golden brown and was very juicy. My greatest problem was finding that the deliverance men did not pull off all of the plastic protective covering from the surface. We had to take screws loose from the back of the range top to release this strip of plastic. If I hadn’t noticed it before I firstborn used the oven, the heat from the oven would have melted it and caused a huge mess with fumes. The oven will without doubt smell horrendous the original time you bake with it irrespective (mentioned in manual). Allow for ventilation that day! Although the panel behind the control knobs gets gorgeous warm, I haven’t found it to be a problem, but I agree you might need to use caution with little ones. I haven’t broiled anything yet and am looking forward to that. All in all, I made just the right choice for me and am very pleased.
